Car covers and anti-theft devices

December 23rd, 2009

Although we can’t protect your car with an electromagnetic field, we do make great car covers. If you are worried about your car getting stolen, a car cover is a great way to keep it protected. Did you know that taking/ripping the cover off is considered breaking and entering? That’s why covering it can keep people out of your car. We also have cable and lock kits that you can use to lock your cover onto your car, which would make it even harder for someone to get into your car. Buy a cover today and you’ll significantly decrease the chance.

Why I Love My Rubbertite Custom Floor Mats

December 15th, 2009

Jack Labens, Empire Covers Product Research

When I first bought my car a few years ago, I did my best to maintain it by cleaning it regularly inside and out. That was pretty hard to do, especially during the winter when I tracked mud, dirt, snow, and ice into my car, no thanks to my dirty shoes. This became a problem when the things I was tracking in started to stain the floor mats in my car. I tried to keep the mats nice because it was new car and I liked it to be clean for guests who ride in my car. I was also worried because it could decrease the value of my car if I decided to sell it later on. I decided it would be a good idea to purchase some floor mats with better stain resistance.

To make things easier, I bought a set of custom car mats to replace my worn and dirty factory mats. Last July, I bought Ultimats from Empirecovers.com, which are great for trapping dirt and debris. I was even able to personalize the mats by choosing my favorite color and getting my name embroidered on them. These mats worked great for me until winter rolled around.

During the winter, I tracked mud, dirt, snow, and ice into my car, no thanks to wet snow boots and shoes. This became a problem when the things I was tracking in started to stain the floor mats in my car. My Ultimats were great, but I wanted more protection, I also didn’t want to destroy thm.

When I started to research more weatherproof floor mats, I knew I wanted another set of custom mats so they would fit as well as my Ultimats did. I finally decided on the Rubbertite™ mats from Empirecovers.com because their features fit my needs the best. The Rubbertite™ mats came in the exact pattern for the make, model, and year of my car, making it easy to find right what I needed. They also looked really good for being rubber mats, which is important because I didn’t want to sacrifice style. I was able to choose the right color for my car and a style that matched.

Rubbertite™ floormats also have trunk patterns. If you happen to haul around muddy gear or tools in your trunk, the Rubbertite™ is a great choice. I’ve had them for a few months now, and they’ve completely stood up to the expectations I had when I first bought them. Each mat has hundreds of uniform “wells” that trap all liquid.

For example, last week I accidentally knocked over a cup of coffee from my cup holder. Normally I would cringe to think of the awful stain that would occur on the carpet mats. But, the coffee collected in the rounded wells. I was able to simply clean up the liquid with a paper towel and spray the mat clean with the hose. These mats are really durable and can withstand freezing temperatures. Also, they have backing holds as well as a non-slip surface that keep the mats in place for additional safety. I love my Rubbertite™ floor mats and I’ve recommended them to all my friends. Jack Labens, Empire Covers Product Research

Winterize your car

December 5th, 2009

Winter can be a wonderful time filled with holiday cheer and snowflakes. It can also be extremely harsh. Plants, humans, animals, and even cars feel the brunt of winter furry. Although it may not seem like it, Old Man Winter can be incredibly cruel to your vehicle. Aside from ice build up, fluids and hoses can freeze up, not to mention those cold leather seats at 7 am! There are a few precautions one can take in order to help prevent the damage that winter can do.

Most importantly, buy yourself a high quality, weatherproof car cover. We recommend the Empire Waterproof or the Max cover. Both of these covers have high water resistance to block out snow and ice. (Note: In unusual circumstances, a layer of ice may form between your vehicle and the cover. This layer of ice must be thawed before removing your cover. You may expedite this process by pouring warm water over the cover and gently lifting it as the ice begins to melt. If any resistance occurs, repeat the process.) The cover can also be protected against wind by installing grommets that come with it. By tying it down, you can keep fierce winter winds from blowing your cover off.

The Importance of Detailing

May 19th, 2009

Keeping your car looking nice isn’t something people do just to attract attention. The process of detailing not only makes your car look great, but protects the paint and ensures that it will continue to look new for years to come. The following list of items are essential to have in order to give your car the care it needs.

If your car is relatively new or has been kept under a quality car cover you can get away with just using:

1. Microfiber towels
2. Black-trim treatment
3. Detailer spray
4. One-step polish or wax
5. Wax applicators

If your car has been neglected you may need items such as:

1. Clay bar
2. Mild polish or pre-wax cleaner

Using these items will ensure that your car is protected and that your finish will look great for years to come.

May 6th, 2009

Do you know that most traffic accidents could easily be prevented? If you’re not going to store your vehicle under a car cover (which would really prevent all accident chances) read on!

Also, remember having your vehicle serviced regularly will prevent as vehicle malfunctions that may occur while on the road!

Ford Focus

May 4th, 2009

“Based on my experience with cars and conversation I have had with friends, family, colleagues, work peers, and many more the worst car on the market is the Ford Focus. It should not surprise that this is the car I own and drive on a daily basis. The Focus is just another example with the problems with the American automobile in general. The alternator quit on me with less than 20,000 miles, nearly killing me and my roommate at the time. Then the replacement cost $900 and that gave up 20,000 miles later. First of all for a college sophomore $900 was a small fortune and it took me many months to recoup this cost. After I got the car back from the shop a second time, it still had problems and apparently was close to blowing up, I reliable source told me later after I brought the car it a third time. After this, I am convinced this car is out to kill me.

I had a friend who expressed the same complaints I have about her focus. Her alternator also died in the middle of the road, like mine did (mine actually died in the middle of the highway in the Arizona desert in July, you do the math on how horrible this experience was). So, the morale of this sad story is do not take your focus on long road trips, actually if you can avoid purchasing one at all would be your best bet. The price may be attractive, but if you factor in all the future headaches you will deal with when owning this car it is definitely not worth it. Buying a comparable foreign car, such as the Honda Accord or Toyota Corolla, would be a better bet. I know this is very Un-American for me to say but until these American car companies get their act together, stories like this one will continue to plaque FORD and GM. In conclusion, the negative acronym of FORD definitely holds true from this story: (Nearly) Found on Road Dead”.

Automobile Migrating

April 21st, 2009

I find it intriguing to witness the trend of tricking out one’s automobile migrating into the demographic of middle class dads. The ritual of enhancing your ride with spinning wheels, flashy chrome grills and chunky dual chrome-tipped exhaust pipes was once reserved for the young urban constituency, those who emulate rappers and their flashy music video vehicles. In fact, I recall my father scoffing at these spinning spectacles, sarcastically remarking that the accessories exceeded the value of some of these pimped rides.

Today, my sixty-three year old father proudly parades around in his 60k Volkswagen Toureg adorned with all the flashy fixings, including an OEM chrome grill, upgraded xenon headlights, bold stainless steel exhaust tips and chrome VW vanity plate. What inspired the change of heart remains a mystery to me. Perhaps, the evolution of the Cadillac, once widely considered the crest of the senior citizen, could shed some light on the adoption of automobile accessorizing opulence amongst aging men. After all, the modern incarnation of grandpa’s classic Deville, the 2009 Cadillac DTS, offers a 292 V8 engine, 18” 9-spike chrome finish wheels and bi-functional Xenon HID headlights standard with the mid-level version of this model. From the looks of this trend, accessorizing the car represents the new retirement rebellion.
