My Mazda Raceway Trip (Laguna Seca)

March 16th, 2009

Laguna Seca is located in beautiful Monterey CA settled right in the hills and gives beautiful views of the countryside on your way in. This time of year all those racing vehicles are hiding under Car covers, or motorcycle covers. The views of nature aren’t what you usually think of when it comes to race tracks. The land surrounding Laguna Seca Mazda Raceway is some of the nicest you will find. Once you get into the grounds it is better than any pictures or videogames give it justice. The world renound track layout is even more intimidating in person. If you are a true gear head this is one track you have to see in person to truly appreciate. Audi R8

March 11th, 2009

This was right out of the movies! Iron Man’s car of choice the Audi R8 is always a crowd favorite with its futuristic looks.  This car is not one that’s been hidden under a car cover but has been praised by magazines and TV shows alike for its ability to get around a race track in hurry along with being able to be docile enough for every day use on the street.  The perfect every day beat around car for your average billionaire playboy.

Lotus Exige

March 10th, 2009

The car cover is off and this vehicle was ready to not only show but to race! Once again, Lotus has held tight to the old motto, less is more.  While only producing 240 horsepower this little rocket will get to 60mph in less than 4 seconds thanks to its curb weight which barely gets over the 2000lb mark.  With each generation of supercars gaining exorbitant amounts of weight each year it is nice to see one car manufacturer holding tight to the lightweight go-kart like sports cars of old.

Mercedes 300SL

March 5th, 2009

Here is a fine example of a vehicle that was most likely kept under a car cover; the famous Mercedes 300SL “Gull Wing”.  This rare car was ahead of its time with styling and also was the first production car to feature Direct Fuel Injection in lieu of carburetion.  As one of the most desired sports cars ever this car can fetch close to $500,000 at auction depending on the condition.

Nissan GT-R

March 3rd, 2009

The new Nissan GT-R car was dubbed “godzilla” by the Australian press after the R32 version came to their shores and dominated every racing event it was entered!  Until this R35 model debuted last year we could only read stories and watch videos of this technological achievement that has been terrorizing European sports cars all over the rest of the world.

They say that good things come to those who wait, and in this case they were right.  This new model takes the use of technology to a whole new plane.  A car that weighs over 3800 pounds and “only” makes 480 horsepower should not be able to sprint from 0-60 in 3.2 seconds.  But this GT-R monster does through Nissan’s advanced rear mounted 6spd F1 style transmission and the use of electronically controlled 4wd system.  The traction & stability control system allows this car to plow around faster than a Porsche 911 turbo and has now set the new benchmark as to what performance should be expected from an $80,000 sports car.  This car should come with the added protection of a waterproof car cover for the perfect package.
